Reimagine Forgotten Community

Participatory Interactive Storytelling Event with San Marcos Community Members
Reimagine Forgotten Community Stories is a participatory, interactive storytelling event designed to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities in San Marcos, Texas. By bringing together participants from local cultural organizations, including Centro Cultural Hispano De San Marcos, The Indigenous Cultures Institute, and The Calaboose African American Association, the project shares personal stories through compelling visual narratives. Recognizing that history is often written by those with power and privilege, this project aims to decolonize local history, empower community members to share their unique perspectives, and celebrate their past and present. By sharing these stories, the project seeks to honor the cultural richness and diversity of the community while challenging traditional narratives that have excluded many.

The event was held at the historic Hays County Courthouse, the oldest building in San Marcos, and was funded by a grant from the City of San Marcos Arts Commission. The project united diverse voices to create a more inclusive narrative of the history and culture of San Marcos, Texas.
